Lifetime Achievement Award

This year’s event, the 10th anniversary of the Software Industry Awards, will also feature the premiere of the Software Council of Southern California’s Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be presented annually to an individual who has made major contributions to the growth and success of the region’s software industry.

The first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award will be David W. Hanna, the former CEO of Sage Software. Hanna played an instrumental managerial role in leading Sage Software, Inc. from a negligible net worth position in 1985, when he joined the company as CEO, president and director, to a market value of $263 million in early 1998. Founded in 1981 as State of the Art, Inc. (SOTA), the company was sold in March of 1998 to Sage, Plc, a public company based in the United Kingdom.

Hanna produced a triple digit growth in revenues and earnings between 1994 and the end of fiscal 1999. Under his stewardship Sage has become the leading company in the U.S. in accounting software and support for small and medium-sized businesses. Hanna recently resigned as CEO of Sage, but he continues to play an active role at the company as a non-executive director, senior advisor and consultant.

Hanna currently sits on the board of directors of three high technology companies, CacheFlow, InfoGain, and MITEM Corporation. He serves on National Board of the Alzheimer's Foundation, the Director’s Board of the Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Irvine, and the Board of Directors of Empower America, a not-for-profit organization that advances free enterprise solutions to societal problems.

Hanna was honored as "1998 Software CEO of the Year" by the Software Council of Southern California, and named one of the "Top 100 Most Influential People of 1999" by Accounting Today magazine.
