How do TV shows make money?

In traditional media, TV shows earn money from advertisements. Based on the audience that a show or series is able to draw, the media company who airs the show can set, increase or decrease the cost of advertisements run during that program. With the advent of VOD and OTT services, TV shows are also able to earn money by licensing the program to streamers such as Netflix or Hulu for a set period of time or in a set region.
